John G. Browning is Of Counsel at Ryan G. Cole Law in McKinney and a former Justice on Texas’ Fifth District Court of Appeals in Dallas. In addition to practicing law, Justice Browning serves as Distinguished Jurist in Residence and Professor of Law at Faulkner University’s Thomas Goode Jones School of Law. He is Chair of the Institute for Law & Technology at the Center for American and International Law, and a past chair of the State Bar of Texas’ Computer & Technology Section. A national thought leader on technology and the law and on how technology has impacted legal ethics, Justice Browning is the author of more than 50 law review articles and 5 law books, including ( with Jan Jacobowitz) “Legal Ethics and Social Media: A Practitioner’s Handbook” ( 2nd ed., ABA Publishing, 2022). He has authored ethics opinions as a member of the State Bar of Texas Professional Ethics Committee, and represented lawyers in legal malpractice litigation as well as disciplinary proceedings. Among Justice Browning ‘s numerous honors is the Lola Wright Foundation Award from the Texas Bar Foundation for his career-long contributions to the advancement of legal ethics. He is a graduate of Rutgers University and the University of Texas School of Law.
