New attorneys in Texas will now be taking the Justice James A. Baker Guide to Ethics and Professionalism in Texas course. The four-hour legal ethics course, required by the Supreme Court of Texas of all newly-licensed attorneys since 1996, has been renamed to reflect its broader focus on unique aspects of practicing law in Texas, including the Texas Disciplinary Rules, the Texas Lawyers’ Assistance Program, and the state’s pro bono opportunities, among other topics.
Formerly known as the Justice James A. Baker Guide to the Basics of Law Practice, the course will continue to feature some of the state’s foremost experts in legal ethics and professionalism and will provide both new and experienced lawyers with useful information as they begin their practice in Texas.
