This course provides newly licensed attorneys with a solid foundation for a successful legal career. It features a discussion on Ethics, Practice Management, Career Killers and a panel discussion, Launching Your Legal Career-Tips for Success.

This course is mandatory for newly licensed attorneys in Texas.
Newly licensed attorneys have 12 months to complete the course.
The course fee is $150. There is an added $150 administrative late fee for practicing new attorneys who have not completed this course in 12 months.
Attorneys not completing the mandatory course within 16 months of receiving their bar card will be suspended from practicing law. This is an administrative suspension and is by mandate of the Supreme Court of Texas. There will be an additional $25 fee to reinstate the license after the course has been completed. We will provide further instructions on how to pay this fee after you have completed the course and email your Certificate of Completion to us.

Course Description

Taught by some of Texas’ most influential lawyers and judges, The Justice James A. Baker Guide to Ethics and Professionalism in Texas course provides newly licensed attorneys with a solid foundation for a successful legal career. It features a discussion on Ethics, Practice Management, Career Killers and a panel discussion, Launching Your Legal Career-Tips for Success.

This course qualifies for the Texas Supreme Court-mandated four hours of ethics/professional responsibility/participatory MCLE credit with the State Bar of Texas MCLE Department and must be completed no later than 12 months after being licensed.

After you view the videos and affirm your completion of all four parts of the course, you will receive a Certificate of Completion and information that will allow you to register your completion with the State Bar of Texas, thus fulfilling your obligations. If you complete the course after your 12 month deadline, an additional $150 late fee will apply.

Please note that group viewings are not available for this course. In order to receive credit for online viewing, individuals must register separately and watch the course in its entirety. 

To Lift Suspension of Law License:

You must complete the Justice James A. Baker Guide to Ethics and Professionalism in Texas course and pay the $150 late fee penalty. You must also pay a $25 administrative fee to lift your suspension.  You can either pay by credit card or check. 

To pay by check: make $25 check payable to the Clerk of the Supreme Court and mail it to Texas Center for Legal Ethics, 1414 Colorado, 4th Floor, Austin, TX 78701. Please contact us to pay by credit card.  Once the course is completed and the fee has been paid, the suspension will be lifted.  

MCLE Accreditation:

You will receive 4 hours of ethics CLE upon completion of the course. You will not receive additional credit for the segments completed in the bundled course.
