How Much Do Lawyers Cost? Sometimes They're Free
Back to all blog posts
You've probably read a lot about how much lawyers make, how much they charge, how prohibitively expensive legal fees can be, etc. Lawyers are often expensive, with good reason, but there are a significant number of attorneys who care about providing low cost legal services to the public.
Case in point: lawyers from the Dallas Bar Association staff a free -- free, as in it doesn't cost anything -- phone bank to answer legal questions from Dallas County residents on the second and third Wednesday of every month. The DBA's LegalLine is available from 5:30 to 8:00 pm on those days, and DBA lawyers handle anywhere from 50 to 90 calls in a typical evening. The next session is tonight, so if you or someone you know has a legal question, these dedicated lawyers can be reached at 214-220-7476.
And don't forget to thank them when you're done.

About This Blog
Thanks for stopping by On the Merits, the first blog from the Texas Center for Legal Ethics. On the Merits will take a close look at significant legal stories with an eye toward addressing the legal myths and misconceptions that turn up in news stories, movies, TV programs, websites, anonymous emails and other forms of mass communications. Our goal at On the Merits is to provide readers with a thoughtful examination of what the media and others are saying about the legal profession and to apply the frequently-absent context of how the legal system actually works.
