Casey Anthony Blog Getting Notice

Our recent blog post on the Casey Anthony jury verdict has gotten a lot of attention in legal and media circles. In addition to the item turning up on Twitter and other social media outlets, it also earned coverage in The Dallas Morning News and has been circulated among attorneys through their personal email accounts throughout Texas and across the U.S.  Last week, a commentary on the same topic written by TCLE Executive Director Jonathan Smaby was published by the Detroit Free Press. Click here to read the entire commentary on the newspaper’s website.

It is difficult to combat lies and misinformation. I am glad that Texas lawyers are making the effort.
Mark Twain's prescient comment about this anticipated by decades this age of Twitter, Facebook and the internet:
" A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes."

About This Blog

Thanks for stopping by On the Merits, the first blog from the Texas Center for Legal Ethics. On the Merits will take a close look at significant legal stories with an eye toward addressing the legal myths and misconceptions that turn up in news stories, movies, TV programs, websites, anonymous emails and other forms of mass communications. Our goal at On the Merits is to provide readers with a thoughtful examination of what the media and others are saying about the legal profession and to apply the frequently-absent context of how the legal system actually works.
