Texas Center for Legal Ethics Announces 2022 Pope Award Winner
Back to News
The Texas Center for Legal Ethics is proud to announce that Lynne Liberato will receive the 2021 Chief Justice Jack Pope Professionalism Award.
Each year, the Texas Center for Legal Ethics presents the Pope Award to a judge or attorney who personifies the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in appellate law. The Pope Award is named for former Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Jack Pope, one of the Texas Center for Legal Ethics’ founders and the first individual to receive the Award in 2009.
An acclaimed appellate lawyer, Liberato is Senior Counsel at Haynes and Boone in Houston. She is a former President of the State Bar of Texas and was the first woman to serve as President of the Houston Bar Association.
Appellate lawyer Kevin Dubose noted that “I have been opposing counsel to Lynne in some high profile matters where our trial lawyers and clients had a contentious relationship. In each case, her skill as an advocate, her passion for excellence, and her commitment to her clients was at the highest level. But what impressed me even more was that she always treated me with warmth, generosity, and respect – in other words, like a friend, not as an enemy.”
The Pope Award will be presented to Liberato by Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Nathan Hecht at the Annual Texas Supreme Court Historical Society Dinner on Sept. 8 in Austin.
Founded in 1989 by Chief Justice Pope and two other retired Texas Supreme Court chief justices, the Texas Center for Legal Ethics promotes the values contained in the Texas Lawyer’s Creed and fulfills its founders’ vision to be the leading center of knowledge and resources for ethics and professionalism in Texas.
