TCLE Receives Grant from Texas Bar Foundation

5/27/2014

AUSTIN –The Texas Center for Legal Ethics (TCLE) announced today that it has received a $15,000.00 grant from the Texas Bar Foundation to expand TCLE’s Ethics To Go program. Ethics To Go provides high-quality Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programming for attorneys and local bar associations in Texas.

Under the program, TCLE develops and distributes, at no cost, pre-recorded legal ethics programs to small local bar associations. It allows attorneys throughout the state to easily and effectively fulfill their CLE ethics requirement with presentations on topics relevant to their practices. All Texas lawyers are required to receive three hours of ethics CLE per year.

Jonathan E. Smaby, TCLE Executive Director, said that the organization is grateful for the support of the Foundation. "The Texas Bar Foundation is widely recognized as a leader in promoting justice and improving the legal system, and we are pleased and honored to have the Foundation’s continued support for this important initiative,” Smaby said. “The Texas Bar Foundation has a long history of support for the Center, and we look forward to continuing to work together to promote and enhance legal ethics in Texas.”

Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded over $15 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation's largest charitably-funded bar foundation.

Founded in 1989 by three retired Texas Supreme Court chief justices, the Texas Center for Legal Ethics promotes the values contained in the Texas Lawyer’s Creed. The Center pursues the original vision of its founders as the leading center of knowledge and resources for ethics and professionalism in Texas.
